Module 3 :Lesson 1 " Development and use of Non-digital or conventional Materials"

Instructional Material

- also known as Teaching/Learning Materials, are any collection of materials including animate and inanimate objects and human and non-human resources that a teacher may use in teaching and learning situations to help achieve desired learning objectives.

Examples:  Drawings , kits, textbooks, posters, magazines, flip chart, newspapers, diorama, pictures, recording videos.

Diorama- Are small scenes created to build an exciting scenes created of layers of materials, all depicting a similar concept or theme.

Nature Table:- This a table that contains scenes related to the current season.

Flip Chart - A large tablet or pad, usually on a tripod or stand.

Zigzag board- a multi-board series of three or four rectangular boards.

Wall Display- A collection of many types of items and materials put up on a wall to make an interesting and informative display.

Rope and pole Display Board- consists  of two parallel, horizontal poles tied loosely together with rope.

The Importance of Learning Materials in Teaching


Instructional Materials are the tools used in educational lessons which includes active learning and assessment. Basically, any resources a teacher uses to help him teach his students is in instructional material. It is important because they can significantly increase student achievement by supporting student learning. This process aids in the learning process by allowing the students to explore the knowledge independently as well as providing repetition. Instructional materials constitute alternative channels of communication, which a teacher can use to convey more vividly instructional information to learners. They represent a range of materials which can be used to 'extend the range of vicarious experience' of learners in a teaching-learning situation.

Teaching materials is a generic term used to describe the resources teachers use to deliver instruction. Teaching materials can support student learning and increase student success. Ideally, the teaching materials will be tailored to the content in which they're being used, to the students in whose class they are being used, and the teacher. Teaching materials come in many shapes and sizes, but they all have in common the ability to support student learning.

  • APPLICATION


To be an effective Teacher, must know how to utilize a variety of instructional material at all levels such as presentation and handouts to enhance the quality of their lesson. The quality of those materials directly impacts the quality of teaching. Knowing how to find the instructional materials is a valuable for a teacher to have. As a future teacher how to promote meaningful communication and effective learning to encourage participation and collaborative learning.
